Paul Chandler joined contractor from Skanska last year
The man Wates poached from Skanska to head up its construction business has been promoted to the firm鈥檚 group board.
Paul Chandler (pictured) quit the Swedish contractor nearly two years ago after more than three decades at the firm.
He joined Wates at the beginning of last year and during 2017 helped oversee a 5% rise in turnover at the firm鈥檚 largest arm to just under 拢933m.
Wates chairman James Wates said: 鈥淧aul has made a real impact since joining us at the start of 2017. He brings a set of skills and a wealth of experience that I believe will make a real contribution to the board.鈥�
The business secured nearly 拢3bn of new business in 2017, including the Scape Major Works UK Framework, the Education and Skills Funding Agency鈥檚 latest four-year schools construction framework and major projects for Public Health England.
Last week the firm picked up a 拢150m contract to build two office buildings in Birmingham. The offices, called One Axis Square and Four Axis Square, have been designed by Fletcher Priest Architects and are being developed by London and Continental Railways.
