Engineering consultant Waterman Group is developing plans for a nuclear division in anticipation of the government ordering a new generation of nuclear power stations.
Bob Campbell, Waterman Group鈥檚 managing director, said: 鈥淲e are starting to develop plans for a nuclear division. Sustainable energy as a whole is a huge growth area for the business.鈥
Nick Taylor, who will succeed Campbell as managing director when he retires from the role in July, said the growth was one aspect of his planned expansion of the business, which he also intends to grow geographically.
He identified eastern Europe and Kazakhstan as targets, but said he also wanted to strengthen its UK business by organic growth and acquisition.
If Waterman goes ahead with its nuclear division, it will add to a trend among consultants. Halcrow has formed a division to handle new-build work and White Young Green has appointed a nuclear expert as its chief executive.
Waterman this week completed its acquisition of Boreham Consulting for an initial sum of 拢4.9m.
