The Stratford-based V&A East will open in 2023
The V&A has unveiled images of its new museum at Stratford Waterfront and new collection centre a 10-minute walk away at Here East.
The projects comprise V&A East, which will open to the public in 2023 and is part of the 拢1.1bn investment in culture and education forming part of the Olympic legacy.
A new five-storey museum (pictured above), designed by Dublin architect O鈥橠onnell + Tuomey, will have two galleries and offer panoramic views of the surrounding area.
It will sit alongside the London College of Fashion, a new Sadler Wells鈥 venue and new BBC studios.
Across Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the collection centre (pictured below) will be a home for 250,000 objects and 917 archives spanning the V&A鈥檚 collection, allowing visitors to see items which have been in storage for decades.
The centre is being designed by a team led by New York-based Diller Scofidio + Renfro supported by Austin Smith:Lord.
Sadiq Khan, mayor of London, said: 鈥淎s London鈥檚 centre of gravity extends east, our plans for East Bank make sure that high-quality culture and education are right at the heart of the development and of our Olympic legacy鈥.
Culture secretary Jeremy Wright said: 鈥淭hese ambitious plans will bring the museum and its vast collection to new audiences and help continue the economic regeneration that East London has undergone since 2012.鈥
