The development consortium behind Paddington Basin has brought in a US architect after dropping Richard Rogers’ designs for the Grand Union site.
The Paddington Development Corporation (PDCL) has appointed Chicago-based architect Perkins+Will to work on a new planning application, three years after the Richard Rogers Partnership received planning permission for a 28-storey mixed-use block.
The firm, which won a design competition involving practices from the UK, the US and the Far East, will work in collaboration with London-based Kalyvides Partnership, which was appointed masterplanner at the site nine months ago.
PDCL said a new masterplan was needed to respond to changes in the commercial and residential markets since the consented 120,000 m2 Rogers scheme was drawn up in 2000.
The scheme will be the first London building by Perkins+Will.
