Developer Urban Splash has won one of the highest profile regeneration schemes in the country, the redevelopment of the Park Hill estate in Sheffield.
The firm, which is in partnership with registered social landlord Manchester Methodist Housing Group (MMHG), saw off competition from teams headed by Amec, Lovell and Wimpey.
Park Hill is the biggest grade II-listed scheme in Britain. Developed in the 1960s, it was an attempt to break the mould of housing estates and features iconic 鈥渟treets in the sky鈥 鈥 raised walkways between residential blocks.
Urban Splash鈥檚 scheme will create a mixed-use sustainable development including owner-occupied housing, social rented properties managed by MMHG and business and community space.
Leader of Sheffield council Jan Wilson said: 鈥淲e really liked Urban Splash's innovative approach including their ideas for retaining the best aspects of Park Hill. We will now spend the next four months working with them on the details of their proposal.鈥
