Cost analysis standard is an essential resource for quantity surveyors
The BICS Standard Form of Cost Analysis could be adopted as an international data exchange standard.
The proposal, which took place at a recent meeting of the UN Trade and Business Processes Group hosted by RICS, could be ratified as early as this autumn.
Joe Martin, BCIS executive director, said: 鈥淭he Standard Form of Cost Analysis is an essential resource for those working in the QS profession and building industry and has provided the standard format for presenting costs since it was first published in 1961.
"This is now a global profession and as such standards need to be international, and we are encouraged that BCIS are set to be recognised in this way.鈥
Delegates from Denmark, France, India, Japan, UK and US gave their backing to the proposals.
The standard will set out how to capture the costs of buildings in order to inform future comparisons.
The addition of a standard for electronic exchange of SFCA data is seen as an important development for BCIS in the international arena.
Updated last year the SFCA is used across the building industry to organise cost data.
