First stage of Islington refurbishment scheme finishes
The UK’s first and largest housing refurbishment under the private finance initiative has been completed.
The £611.5m schemes, for Islington council in London, were undertaken by United House, Bank of Scotland Corporate, Hyde Housing and Rydon Maintenance which formed a consortium, Partners for Improvement in Islington.
The contracts which began in 2003 and 2006 covered 6500 homes in total. Refurbishment under the first contract for 2340 homes is complete. Works to the remaining homes under the second contract will finish in 3.5 years’ time. The consortium will also maintain the homes.
