Cemex has switched from a diesel engine crane to a greener machine at its processing plant on the River Thames

Cemex has introduced the first electric Sennebogen Green Line crane to the UK. The 拢500,000 machine is being used at its Battersea Wharf processing plant on the River Thames where it will be used to unload aggregate from barges.

Instead of a normal diesel engine the crane is powered by electricity, which is quiet, more economical and means there are no direct emissions.

The crane will be used to unload four to five barges a week. These have a capacity of 750 tonnes and have to be unloaded within a two hour window with the rising or falling tide of the Thames. The aggregates are used by the adjacent ready mix concrete plant providing local construction projects.

The 87 tonne 870R-HD crane was manufactured in Straubing, Bavaria and made the final leg of its delivery journey from Erith to Battersea on a 53m barge up the Thames.
