Patel Taylor-designed scheme fits university鈥檚 original 1960s masterplan
Two new Brutalist-inspired buildings have completed at Essex University campus, continuing the vision set out by the university鈥檚 original 1960s masterplan.
The Patel Taylor-designed scheme splits the library and student centre into two separate buildings, creating a landscaped space inbetween.
Director, Andrew Taylor said: 鈥淭he original 60s plan placed student life at its heart and we鈥檙e now bringing this into the 21st century.鈥
Ensuring the original breakout panels were still in use, the new wing connects to the existing library across the main frame.
Named on behalf of a family who played a key role in the University鈥檚 history, the Silberrad Student Centre is heading for a major overhaul in renovations.
Plans have been made for Patel Taylor to rennovate other services as well as accommodation.
