Design team also includes Hawkins\Brown and White Arkitekter
A team led by Turner & Townsend has been chosen to draw up plans for the £200m Cambridge Children’s Hospital project.
T&T will carry out project management, design team management, stakeholder management and cost management on the scheme.
The team also includes architects Hawkins\Brown and White Arkitekter, engineer Ramboll and MJ Medical, which specialises in healthcare planning.
The hospital will be built on the Cambridge biomedical campus, whose tenants currently include covid-19 vaccine creator AstraZeneca, pharma giant GlaxoSmithKline and Cancer Research UK.
It will also be home to the Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital, which was one of the 40 hospitals given funding as part of the government’s hospital building programme.
The appointment of the project design team is a major milestone in the delivery of the project, which is due to open in 2025.
The scheme is a partnership between two leading NHS trusts – Cambridge University Hospitals and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust – and Cambridge university.
The scheme aims to provide a new way of caring for young people, integrating mental and physical healthcare, alongside academic research particularly in the areas of psychology and genomics.
The government committed £100m to the project in 2018, with a fundraising campaign set to be announced this spring to raise another £100m for the hospital.
