Station set to be revamped to cope with HS2
Turner & Townsend has secured a two year contract to provide project controls services for the Network Rail Crewe programme, which will connect the existing rail network with HS2 in the future.
The company has been asked to ensure effective controls and processes are established and integrated across the programme.
The delivery of the Crewe programme will allow Network Rail to improve services and capacity at the station, ahead of HS2 arriving.
>> Integrated Rail Plan: industry reacts
The Crewe junction is key to the HS2 programme as it will connect the Midlands with Manchester under the project’s second phase.
This western branch will now make up this phase in its entirety with the government last week confirming that it would not be proceeding with the eastern arm to Leeds.
The Integrated Rail Plan also revealed that the £39bn Northern Powerhouse Rail line between Manchester and Leeds via Bradford had also been scaled back.
