Consultant will project manage extensions in Wolverhampton and Birmingham

Turner & Townsend has been chosen to project manage extensions to the West Midlands metro network, 鈥楳idland Metro鈥.

The extension works include a 拢15m extension to the bus and rail stations in Wolverhampton, as well as the extension of the existing terminus in Birmingham at Snow Hill to the city鈥檚 redeveloped New Street Station.

Turner & Townsend director, Robert Flavell, said: 鈥淲e are delighted to be involved in projects at both ends of the Metro Line. Extending the tram in Wolverhampton would support significant regeneration offering new employment opportunities and a major stimulus to the Black Country.

鈥淚n Birmingham commuters will be connected to two main stations and the Colmore Business District. As such this scheme is expected to boost the West Midlands economy by 拢50 million a year while also reducing inner-city congestion.

鈥淐ombined together with extensions to the airport runway this is an exciting time for the West Midlands which is set to become a first-in-class transport hub for the UK, complete with a modern light rail to rival the very best throughout Europe. It is hugely rewarding to be a part of this journey.鈥
