Castle Cement, part of the HeidelbergCement Group, has launched Luccon, a light-conducting concrete which can work in walls up to 20m thick.

Light-conducting glass fibres are embedded in the concrete, which allow artificial light from the interior of the building to filter to the outside. Typical applications include room dividers, stairs and worktops.

The strength is comparable to high-strength concrete, says the company.

Luccon is available in standard sizes of 400mm x 1,000mm, and 1,600mm x 700mm, at thicknesses of 20mm.
