Grant Shapps says employers will help improve energy efficiency of their staff's homes under Carbon Cooperation Plan
Shadow housing minister Grant Shapps underlined the Conservatives鈥 commitment to improving the energy efficiency of existing homes in his speech to conference today.
Shapps confirmed that employers would be incentivised to pay for greening the existing homes of their employees under the Tories鈥 Carbon Cooperation Plan, a measure unveiled last year.
The move comes ahead of a Tory 鈥淕reen Deal鈥 expected to be unveiled later today, which will include a series of measures to help tackle carbon emissions from homes and help reduce energy bills.
Shapps said that he wanted to turn the UK into a 鈥渘ation of homebuilders鈥 by giving local authorities incentives to build new homes and scrapping Labour鈥檚 centralised, target-led approach to housebuilding.
The measures being proposed by the Conservatives include abandoning the regional development agencies and regional spatial strategies.
