Danish architect BIG has won a competition in collaboration with Arup and architect AGU to design a national library for Kazakhstan
The 33,000m2 building in the capital, Astana, is named after Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first president of the republic, and was inspired by traditional Kazakh yurts. The construction value is $90m (£55m) and completion is expected in 2012.
