Right to light row overshadows City hotel development
Plans for a hotel development at Mariner House in the City of London have been caught up in a row over the right to light.
The owner of Ten Trinity Square, a grade II-listed art deco building, argues that an 11-storey hotel nearby would interfere with its right to light.
Now Ten Trinity Square is seeking an injunction banning Mariner House owner City Inn (Jersey) from going ahead with the scheme in a way that diminishes the light.
Both sides have been locked in litigation before, when City Inn sued Ten Trinity Square in a dispute over whether Ten Trinity Square was able to control development of a site in Pepys Street in Tower Hill, London.
The Court of Appeal finally dismissed the case allowing the redevelopment of Mariner House to go ahead.
