The Town and Country Planning Association is to formulate a 鈥渘ew agenda鈥 to respond to the growing threat of climate change
Lee Shostak, appointed this week as chair of the planning and development charity, said the organisation would focus on how development needed to change to enable people to live more sustainably.
Shostak said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e currently preparing a new agenda for the 21st century. It鈥檒l be looking at what structure and pattern of settlements is needed. For example, efficient structures will reduce the need to travel by car.鈥
Shostak鈥檚 comments come amid concerns that by promoting new towns over the organic growth of settlements, the government risks encouraging unsustainable travel patterns.
Shostak, a director of Shared Intelligence, replaces David Lock.
