Haworth Tompkins鈥� ambitious rebuild in glorious detail
Riba last night awarded the annual Stirling Prize to Haworth Tompkins鈥� Everyman Theatre in Liverpool, beating bookies鈥� favourite the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre for the LSE, by O鈥橠onnell & Tuomey Architects.
Riba President Stephen Hodder described it as an exceptional new building that 鈥渟truck the perfect balance between continuity and change鈥� in order to become 鈥渁 ground-breaking example of how to build a daring bold and highly sustainable large public building in a historic city centre.鈥�
The judges said the new Everyman was 鈥渢ruly for every man, woman and child鈥�, cleverly resolving the issues of context and scale architects grapple with every day.
