Quoted architect SMC Group has created a new division, SMC Sport and Leisure, to target those sectors and take advantage of the 2012 London Olympics.
The creation of the division came on the back of recent contract wins in the leisure sector, including the appointment of SMC Charter, a member of the SMC Group, on a £27.5m development in Ilford. The project includes a 50 m swimming pool and a 12-court sports hall.
SMC Charter has also been appointed by Ipswich council to complete a feasibility study for an Olympic-sized pool.
SMC Charter’s Paul Weston has been made chairman of the division and Michael Hall of SMC Group has been appointed managing director. It is expected that resources will be drawn from across the group’s businesses to work on larger sports projects.
