Construction firm will build a new facility at State Hospital for patients with mental disorders
Skanska has won a £65m contract to carry out construction work at the State Hospital in Carstairs for NHS Scotland.
The firm will construct a new facility covering 19,000m2, and look after the demolition, refurbishment and alteration of another 1,500m2 of existing buildings. Work also involves landscaping throughout the 60-acre site.
Skanska will also carry out the mechanical, electrical, voice and data installations for the new hospital for patients with mental disorders.
Macmon is lead architect on the project. Rybka is mechanical and electrical consultants and Faber Maunsell is the civil and structural consultant.
David Tydeman, Skanska UK executive vice president, said: "The award of this contract reinforces Skanska's commitment to being part of the redevelopment of essential social and community infrastructure in Scotland."
To minimise disruption the contract has been split into three independent phases.
Construction will begin in March 2008 and complete in summer 2011.
