The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has announced the shortlist of firms bidding to take over management of the Sellafield reprocessing plant from 2008.
The shortlist is: CH2M Hill, Energy Solutions, Fluor and Toshiba, Jacobs Engineering Group, SBB Nuclear, (consisting of Serco, Bechtel and BWXT), a consortium of Washington Group International, Amec Nuclear Holdings and Areva.
The successful bidder will be responsible for decommissioning and redevelopment of the Sellafield, Calder Hall, Windscale and Capenhurst sites. From 2008-12, the works have a projected value of £1bn a year, dropping to £600m by 2025. The contract is expected to be awarded mid-2008.
