A unique sports centre in Scunthorpe has been shortlisted for the public building of the year in the Sustain Awards.
The Pods at Scunthorpe, constructed by Bowmer & Kirkland for North Lincolnshire Council and Yorkshire Forward features an unusual interlinked geodesic dome structure with an engineered glued laminated timber frame.
The diameters of the five domes range from 20 metres to 50 metres across and roof coverings include sedum and cedar shingle.
The design concept is by Andrew Wright Associates and S&P Architects and ARCADIS acted as project manager.
