Scottish government minister says Westminster must extend high speed rail link to the boarder
The Scottish government plans to invest 拢9bn in high speed rail links to England, but only if the commitment is met by the government in Westminster extending high speed rail further north.
The project would include work to both the train line to the English border and the terminal station in Glasgow.
Alex Neil, cabinet secretary for infrastructure and capital investment, said: 鈥淚nclusion of high speed rail highlights our commitment to the Scottish end of the project. We now need Westminster to act and include Scotland in its plans.鈥
The plan was announced alongside a 拢60bn programme of investment in Scotland鈥檚 infrastructure that would also see widespread road construction, 30,000 new homes and hospital and school projects. The infrastructure plan will run to 2030.
鈥淲e have been crystal clear that we view capital investment as the vital foundation to lead us out of tough economic times,鈥 said Neil.
