Biomass boiler will help reduce carbon emissions by 40% at Dartmouth store designed by Stride Treglown
Supermarket retailer Sainsburys has opened its first flagship eco-store in Dartmouth which it says will reduce carbon emissions by 40%.
The store, designed by architect Stride Treglown, will also reduce the energy required from the National Grid by 50%. It will also use 60% less water and cut emissions from embodied energy held in building materials used.
The timber building will be powered by a wood-pellett fired biomass boiler. The use of sun pipes directing sunlight into the centre of the building, will reduce the amount of articificial light required.
The metal roof of the building has been designed to resemble a tradition agricultural barn in order to fit in more easily to its rural environment.
