Family Mosaic and Rydon Construction have received full planning permission to redevelop a derelict hospital into 118 homes.
The project, at the former Queen Elizabeth Children鈥檚 Hospital on Hackney Road, incorporates 72 affordable houses and includes three and four-bedroom homes and is part of the Mayor of London鈥檚 commitment to deliver 55,000 affordable houses,
It was granted planning permission by Tower Hamlets council.
The original fa莽ade of the hospital will be retained and refurbished, and alongside the housing, the scheme will provide retail and community space.
Mark Mitchener, managing director at Rydon Construction, commented: 鈥淭he outcome of this application is testament to our commitment to quality and the effort of the teams involved as well as the GLA鈥檚 strategy of releasing land to deliver much-needed housing for Londoners.鈥
Angela Wood, development director at Family Mosaic, said: 鈥淭his is a significant opportunity to build an outstanding development on a site that has been empty for 16 years.鈥
