Jon Rouse, chief executive at the Housing Corporation will step down in the summer to take up a new role as chief executive of the London Borough of Croydon.

Jon Rouse
Rouse: will "continue to be a strong advocate for the creation of an integrated national housing and regeneration agency."

His new position is to be confirmed next week after a meeting is held with all Croydon Council members.

He will become one of the youngest top appointments in a major unitary authority at just 38 and will succeed David Wechsler who is retiring after 37 years with the council.

Rouse said: "I am delighted at the prospect of becoming Croydon鈥檚 next chief executive and look forward to working closely with elected members, officer colleagues and residents to make the borough an even better place in which to live and work.

But I am sad that I will not have the chance to play a full part in the development of Communities England. However, I will continue to be a strong advocate for the creation of an integrated national housing and regeneration agency from my new position within the local government sector."

Peter Dixon, Chairman of the Housing Corporation, said, "Jon has been great to work with over the past three years and Croydon is fortunate to have persuaded him to join them."

Croydon Council leader, Mike Fisher, said: 鈥淐learly, this is a very important appointment for the council and for the future development of our town. In Jon Rouse I believe we have identified a 鈥榬ising star鈥 in the public sector who, at a relatively young age, already has a very strong record of achievement.鈥
