Construction group Rok has expanded its Yorkshire operations by buying a local contractor for 拢4.8m.

ROK bought Harrison Construction, which employs 80 people, from parent company S Harrison Group.

Garvis Snook, chief executive of Rok, said: 鈥淭his acquisition will enhance Rok鈥檚 operations in Yorkshire and facilitate the opening of a contracting business in the Sheffield area.鈥

Rok will now pay 拢2.4m in cash and 拢800,000 in shares for Harrison. A further 拢1.6m will be paid on completion of the deal.

The contractor, which is based in Malton, North Yorkshire, will then be integrated into Rok鈥檚 Northern operations.

Martyn Harrison, chairman of S Harrison, said: 鈥淩ok provides the right infrastructure for Harrison鈥檚 construction business to thrive.鈥

Harrison said the deal would allow the group to focus on its development interests and partner with Rok on schemes in Yorkshire.

The acquisition follows Rok鈥檚 purchase of another Yorkshire firm, Rotherham-based EMB Services, in February.

It has spent 拢60m on acquisitions since last September, including 拢31.3m on the construction arm of Scottish housebuilder Tulloch, and 拢21m on Midlands-based firm SOL Construction.
