Richard Hastilow to step down from operational side of architects鈥� professional body

The RIBA is to seek a new chief executive after Richard Hastilow announced his intention to step down from the role.

Hastilow will carry on at the RIBA in an ambassadorial role until spring 2010, after which he will retire from the professional body.

The recruitment process to find Hastilow鈥檚 replacement has already begun, with an appointee intended to be in post by the autumn.

In a statement, Sunand Prasad, the RIBA president, described Hastilow as a 鈥渕an of unimpeachable principles鈥�.

He said: 鈥淩ichard Hastilow has revolutionised the way the RIBA works. As a result, the institute has become truly outward-facing as befits its charter obligations and carries far more weight in public life. At the same time, Richard recognised the distinct areas within the RIBA鈥檚 complex remit and by establishing a clear company structure brought greater focus to each.鈥�
