New campaign says householders hit by floods should replace wooden floors with ceramic tiles
Householders hit by recent floods are being urged to use flood resilient materials and methods when repairing their homes.
Measures proposed include placing electric sockets higher up walls and replacing wooden floors with concrete or ceramic tiles.
A National Flood Forum (NFF) campaign launching tomorrow (Friday) will also recommend replacing MDF kitchen units with marine ply or stainless steel, and installing air brick covers when floods are forecast.
Mary Dhonau, co-ordinator of the NFF said: 鈥淲hen people鈥檚 homes are affected by floods they can be forced out from anything between six months to two years. These measures are designed so that homes can flood and people will not have to move out for long periods of time. They can move back in within a few days.鈥
The campaign is being launched with the government and the Association of British Insurers.
