Resnick Pavilion increases exhibition space at Los Angeles County Museum of Art by 45,000 sq ft
Renzo Piano has unveiled the Resnick Pavilion at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), part of the museum’s second phase of plans to expand its exhibition space.
The single story building provides an extra 45,000 sq ft of space. It has a simple square plan, a saw-tooth roof and travertine stone cladding.
To optimise the interior space almost all the functions are moved to the outside, creating a wide uncluttered area. Two rows of pillars are arranged along the section of the building creating three open galleries that can accommodate several exhibitions at once as well as large scale art pieces.
Technical rooms and air handling units are plugged onto the external facades as red blocks, creating an industrial look.
