Femern tunnel will be the longest immersed undersea tunnel in the world
A trio of consultants including Ramboll and Arup have been awarded a 拢98m (鈧114m) technical advisory role on an 18km undersea tunnel between Germany and Denmark.
The third successful firm is Dutch engineers TEC.
The Femern tunnel project, which has a total budget of 拢6bn (DKK 52.6bn), will provide road and rail links between Puttgarden in Germany and R酶dbyhavn in Denmark. It will be the longest immersed undersea tunnel in the world.
It is expected that 70 employees from the consortium will be engaged full-time on the project during its construction phase.
The tunnel will consist of 79 individual elements, each 217 metres long and weighing 73,000 tonnes, while the whole project will use enough steel to build 50 Eiffel Towers.
