Government agenda is expected to include the Energy and Housing bill as well as legislation on planning, Crossrail and reducing CO2

Today's Queen’s Speech is expected to include major announcements on housing reforms, and energy and education proposals.

The Housing Bill is expected to be at the forefront of the speech, in a bid to deliver on the promise of 3m homes by 2012.

Brown promised to push through the proposals in a ‘Pre-Queen’s Speech’ last July, which would create a Housing and Regeneration Agency to support house building and social housing.

Energy is also on the legislative agenda, with the Planning Reform Bill likely to take prominence as the country’s coal-fired and nuclear power stations close.

The Bill would reduce the time taken to process applications for new power stations, wind farms and clean coal plants.

An Energy Bill also sets out commitments to nuclear power and a Climate Change Bill would set legally binding targets to reduce carbon emissions.

On the education front, the speech is expected to contain plans to give young people £30 a week to train until they are 18.

Other items on the agenda include a Crossrail Bill designed to push forward with the London rail scheme and a Local Transport Bill to address road congestion.
