Work will include public realm improvements
Portsmouth university has been given the green light to build a £53m sports centre and develop the surrounding area after the city’s council approved plans.
The pavilion-like proposed building has been designed by FaulknerBrowns and features a largely glazed ground floor allowing pool users a view of the surrounding park.
The project will also see the surrounding area improved, with new pedestrian paths, a plaza and an urban orchard to be added. The public realm changes were drawn up by landscape architect LDA Design.
The building is due to become the UK’s first BREEAM Outstanding sports facility.
