Woman was killed by large falling window next to Hanover Square construction site

Ambulance

The Metropolitan Police have named the victim of a central London construction site accident as Amanda Telfer.

The police said Telfer was struck by a falling window near the junction of Hanover Street and Hanover Square shortly before lunchtime on 30 August.

She received treatment from paramedics, but was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

A joint statement from the Met and the Health & Safety Executive said a post-mortem examination conducted on Saturday had given the cause of death as 鈥渂lunt force trauma鈥.

It said Telfer鈥檚 family had declined to release any further details. An inquest is due to open on Wednesday.

The tragedy occured next to 5 Hanover Street 鈥 a large commercial and retail development by developer Stanhope - the ground floor of which was being fitted out as a gallery.

A spokesperson for Mitsui Fudosan, owners of 5 Hanover Square, said: 鈥淲e can confirm that a tragic construction accident occurred on 30th August, on Hanover Street. Our thoughts are with the woman鈥檚 family at this terrible time.

鈥淲e regret that we are unable to offer any further comment at this time as it is our understanding that the incident was linked to a fit-out project being delivered by a contractor employed by the tenant of the ground floor retail unit.鈥

Westgreen Construction confirmed it was the 鈥渕ain contractor鈥 on the fit-out on the site, but declined to offer further comment.

Construction consultant Castle-Davis confirmed they were project-managing the fit-out work at the site, which is due to become a 5,000 ft2 gallery, but declined to comment.
