Site one of 14 garden villages proposed by the government in 2017
An outline planning application has been lodged by Grosvenor for a 2,200 home scheme in Oxfordshire.
The Oxfordshire Garden Village, near Eynsham, is the largest single scheme proposed to date for the developer’s Strategic Land division, which has said it aims to have a 30,000-strong portfolio of homes by 2023.
The masterplan submitted to West Oxfordshire district council includes new primary and secondary schools, sports facilities, parks and a 27ha business park intended to attract advanced manufacturing businesses.
In 2017, the site became one of 14 planned garden villages endorsed by then housing secretary Gavin Barwell to meet the country’s housing shortage.
Around 40% of the site will remain undeveloped and nearly 4ha of new woodland will be planted to help meet Grosvenor’s sustainability goals. The developer has pledged to make all of its directly managed buildings net-zero by 2030.
Renewable energy sources will account for 20% of the village’s energy and all heating and hot water will be powered by electricity rather than gas.
Already on the project team is planning consultant Aecom, design and masterplanning consultant Terence O’Rourke and engineer Stantec.
