225,000 passengers will use the station daily, once completed
Westminster City Council has approved plans for a new Crossrail station on Bond Street east.
Designed by John McAslan & Partners, the new Crossrail station will be integrated with the existing Tube station 鈥 forming a combined station that stretches from Hanover Square to Oxford Street.
The station will be constructed over five levels, with ticket halls at street level allowing for easy access of passengers entering and exiting the station.
Currently 155,000 passengers use the station daily with this figure rising to 225,000 once Crossrail opens in 2018.
Main construction is due to begin before the end of 2011.
Julian Robinson, head of station design at Crossrail, said: 鈥淏ond Street will be one of the most important stations on the Crossrail route as it will provide access to the West End.鈥
Architects John McAslan and Partners have designed a station that not only meets the future needs of passengers but reflects the aspirations of the world鈥檚 most famous retail district.
