A 500-home scheme in south London designed by Hawkins Brown for developer Peabody has been granted planning permission.

The 拢120m scheme, a regeneration of Peabody鈥檚 St John鈥檚 Hill estate, adjacent to Clapham Junction railway station, was approved last week by Wandsworth Council.

The application will now be referred to mayor of London Boris Johnson for final approval.

Hawkins Brown partner David Bickle said: 鈥淚 am delighted that Peabody has secured planning permission for this estate regeneration.

Peabody development director, Claire Bennie, called the project 鈥渇orward-thinking, much needed and innovative鈥� and thanked the council for its support.

鈥淭his major scheme that will see the regeneration and development of 527 homes, with over half dedicated to affordable housing,鈥� she added.

The plans include a mix of 1,2,3 and 4 bedroom apartments, a new community 鈥渉ub鈥� comprising a caf茅, club room, cr猫che, learning and function rooms, commercial units, generous open space plus 136 car parking spaces and 687 cycle parking spaces.

Peabody plans to start the works as soon as final approvals have been granted, and the first part of the development is vacated.
