39-unit project first part of phased master plan for 65 homes
Architect PDP London has completed the first phase of a zero carbon housing project in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The first phase comprises 39 houses, with PDP鈥檚 design strategy hinging on maximising south-facing facades to get the most energy from rooftop solar panels.
Each house was built with a timber frame to improve insulation and airtightness, while all the houses are also fitted with their own heat recovery system.
The houses also have waterbutts incorporated into the door canopy to collect rainwater, which is re-used for the WCs.
The development forms part of PDP London鈥檚 phased masterplan for 65 homes, which won an international design competition in 2010.
