The concrete contract for the 20 Fenchurch Street office development dubbed the 鈥淲alkie Talkie鈥� has been awarded to PC Harrington Contractors Limited.

The Southall-based company was granted the contract by Canary Wharf Group, and will now pour 28,000 cubic metres of concrete into the building鈥檚 foundations - equivalent to 11 Olympic-sized swimming pools. The concrete will be supported by 6,000 tonnes of steel reinforcements sourced from Nottingham steel works.

The development, officially known as 20 Fenchurch Street, is being jointly developed by Land Securities and Canary Wharf Group, who confirmed that around 165 people will work for P.C.Harrington on the concrete works.

The 拢500m project is supporting around 3,000 construction jobs overall, and has an estimated completion date of early 2014.

Cormac MacCrann, Executive Director of Canary Wharf Contractors said: 鈥�20 Fenchurch Street has come a long way in a short space of time. Since construction began in January we have put in over 300 piles, finished the excavation, installed cranes and we鈥檙e rapidly preparing for the first of the concrete pours.鈥�
