Repair and maintenance work is the biggest month-on-month faller
Construction output fell again in August, according to the latest ONS figures.
Output fell by 4.3% compared with the previous month, and was down 1.3% on August the previous year. Output also fell month-on-month in July.

Comparing the 3 months, June 2015 to August 2015, with the previous 3 months, March 2015 to May 2015, construction output fell by 0.8%. Repair and maintenance decreased by 3.6% while all new work increased by 0.7%.
When comparing the 3 months, June 2015 to August 2015 with the same 3 months a year ago, construction output was estimated to have increased by 1.8%. All new work increased by 5.6% while repair and maintenance decreased by 4.6%.
Commenting on the figures, Scape chief executive Mark Robinson said: 鈥溾淭oday鈥檚 figures need to be dissected and examined carefully before drawing any overall negative conclusions about the trajectory of construction output in the UK.
鈥淲e can however take broader lessons from this, primarily that the skills shortage in construction is still a problem that needs a lot of work. It now appears to be at the top of the government agenda - which is where it should be - but the industry also needs to ensure it is doing the best it can to position careers in construction, across a whole range of specialisms, to both young men and women.
鈥淭he Spending Review in November will likely give us a longer term view with regards to planned infrastructure and housing growth over the next five years so we wait with bated breath to see the outcome.鈥
