Proposed development is a 拢6.5m office scheme designed to serve up to 60 start-up businesses
The first planning application has been submitted for development in Northampton鈥檚 Waterside Enterprise Zone.
West Northamptonshire Development Corporation has made the application for an office scheme known as the Innovation Cube, which will provide office accommodation and support services for up to 60 start-up businesses.
The 3,740m2 building was designed by architect Broadway Malyan, and will be located opposite Northampton railway Station. It is part of a wider mixed-use development in the centre of the enterprise zone.
The building is expected to cost around 拢6.5m, and funding has been secured in principle from a number of sources, including the European Union.
Northampton鈥檚 Waterside Enterprise Zone was announced by the government in August, and covers 120 ha of predominantly brownfield land along the River Nene.
Chris Garden, director of regeneration at West Northamptonshire Development Corporation, said: 鈥淭ogether with our plans for the redevelopment of Northampton Station, the Innovation Cube will form an impressive gateway into the centre of Northampton. We acquired the site last year and are currently talking to potential partners to help progress the project. As part of wider plans for the Enterprise Zone, it will be an important development for the town.鈥
