Sadie Morgan was named as chair last February
The National Infrastructure Commission has revealed a ten-person-strong design team in a bid to make projects more beautiful.
Sadie Morgan, founding partner of dRMM Architects, was named the chair the new group last February.
Morgan, who was name BD鈥檚 inaugural Female Architectural Leader of the year last week, has now named the nine other members of the team.
The team will draw expertise from across the design sector and includes architects, engineers and other consultants.
The members of the National Infrastructure Commission鈥檚 Design Group are:
- Professor Sadie Morgan (Chair) 鈥 Architectural Designer 鈥 National Infrastructure Commissioner and Founding Partner of dRMM Architects
- Isabel Dedring 鈥 Lawyer and Management Consultant 鈥 Global Transport Leader at Arup
- Anthony Dewar 鈥 Civil Engineer 鈥 Professional Head, 好色先生TVs and Architecture at Network Rail
- Clare Donnelly 鈥 Architect 鈥 Director at Fereday Pollard Architects
- Andrew Grant 鈥 Landscape Architect 鈥 Founder and Director of Grant Associates
- Professor Hanif Kara 鈥 Structural Engineer 鈥 Co-founder and Design Director of AKT II
- Madeleine Kessler 鈥 Architect 鈥 Haptic Architects
- Lucy Musgrave 鈥 Urban Designer 鈥 Founding Director of Publica
- Judith Sykes 鈥 Civil Engineer 鈥 Director at Expedition Engineering
- Louise Wyman 鈥 Chartered Surveyor and Landscape Architect 鈥 Design Lead for the West Midlands Combined Authority
She said it was a 鈥減ivotal moment鈥 for the future of UK infrastructure as it will be the first there is a team tasked with ensuring design is considered from outset to delivery on every major project.
Morgan said: 鈥淭oo often, and at great social cost, design is an afterthought 鈥 a tick box exercise tacked onto a project at the 11th hour,鈥 Morgan said.
鈥淥ur individual experience of the built environment speaks to our national identity; it says a great deal about who we are and what we are good at.鈥
鈥淭hat鈥檚 why all nationally significant projects should have a board level design champion and use a design panel to maximise the benefits the infrastructure will bring.鈥
Five of the team will be working for the commission for the first time, while another three previously worked on an expert panel that informed the NIC鈥檚 National Infrastructure Assessment.
The final member is a representative from the commission鈥檚 Young Professional Panel.
