Trade body suspends Essex-based Micor鈥檚 membership
Trade body the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC) has suspended Essex-based member Micor, pending an inquiry into a 2006 site accident in which one of its employees was killed.
An HSE investigation into the tragedy resulted in Micor being fined 拢100,000 and ordered to pay 拢20,000 in costs in March.
Employee Gary Drinkald, 43, was killed in 2006 after a concrete beam fell and crushed him on a site in Basildon.
The NFDC said in a statement: 鈥淚n keeping with the Federation鈥檚 strict accident reporting policies and code of conduct, Micor鈥檚 corporate membership has been suspended temporarily while further investigations are carried out by the Federation鈥檚 accident investigation committee.
鈥淎lthough the company remains listed on the NFDC website while those investigations take place, the listing has been clearly marked 鈥榮uspended鈥�.鈥�
NFDC president Gary Bishop said: 鈥淎s a Federation, we believe that the welfare of demolition workers is of paramount importance and that it must be safeguarded at all costs.
鈥淲hile we do not question the findings of the HSE investigation, we feel that a further investigation is required to ensure that there is no repeat of this tragic incident in the future.
鈥淥f course, we do not take the suspension of a member lightly but, in this instance, we believe that it would be in the best interests of all concerned if Micor鈥檚 membership was temporarily suspended while that investigation takes place.鈥�
