Arrowcroft has added a theatre to its £600m Croydon Gateway scheme in south London.

The 254-seat Warehouse Theatre was not originally in the developer’s plans. It was included as part of an amended planning application that was entered this week, three months before the scheme goes to public inquiry.

The 13-acre site is the subject of a battle between the Arrowcroft development, which is backed by Croydon council, and a Stanhope–Schroder scheme, designed by Foster + Partners.

Stanhope owns most of the site, but the council has issued compulsory purchase orders to acquire it for the Arrowcroft development.

A public inquiry into the council’s decision to issue the CPOs is scheduled to start in September.

Arrowcroft’s revised submission contains changes to its proposed development, which is based around a 12,000 seat arena, including more affordable housing and parking.
