Improvement works set to commence later this summer
Network Rail is to deliver a 拢7m revamp of Dartford station in a project which will modernise the station鈥檚 facilities.
The scheme involves the demolition of the existing station building to be replaced by a three storey structure. A new concourse and ticket office will also be constructed 鈥 along with more parking bays and extended canopies.
The upgrade is being funded jointly by the Homes and Communities Agency, through Dartford borough council, and the government鈥檚 national stations improvement programme.
Dave Ward, Network Rail鈥檚 route director for Kent, said: 鈥淲e want more people to choose rail to make journeys around Britain, whether for business or leisure.
鈥淭his means that in addition to providing a safe, punctual and reliable train service we need to give passengers the end-to-end journey experience they expect, including a station environment and modern facilities which meet their needs.
鈥淭he upgrade of Dartford station is a big step forward and will make a big difference for the community.鈥
The station will remain open throughout the 15-month construction period with train services being unaffected.
Works on-site are expected to commence in late summer 2011 with completion scheduled for winter 2012.
