Multiplex scheme over the road at 22 Bishopsgate blamed for smash
A steel beam being lifted into place at Multiplex鈥檚 22 Bishopsgate has hit the Cheesegrater.
The contractor is building the 62-storey tower for developer Lipton Rogers on behalf of Axa IM 鈥 Real Assets
In a statement, AXA said: 鈥淢ultiplex, our main contractor at 22 Bishopsgate, has informed us that on 1 August a tower crane working on site was lifting a steel beam which damaged a small part of the external glazing of the Leadenhall 好色先生TV.
鈥淭he building is safe, there were no injuries and work is underway to replace the damaged section.鈥
The building鈥檚 tenants include Rogers, Stirk & Harbour who designed the 225m tower, which was built by Laing O鈥橰ourke.
Severfield is the structural steel contractor on 22 Bishopsgate and is the same firm that worked on the Cheesegrater which underwent several years of costly remedial work after came loose in late 2014. Nearly 4,000 bolts on the building were replaced costing Severfield 拢6m.
