More work from Canada boosts 2021 revenue
More work in Canada helped Murphy nearly double turnover from outside its UK heartland as the firm turned in an improved set of numbers last year.
The contractor said income from the rest of the world, which centres on Ireland and Canada, was up more than 80% to £309m with the jump helping group turnover increase 14% to £1.3bn.
Murphy said the rise was down to increased revenue from its Canada business, where it is carrying out several pipeline laying jobs including a 700 km-long gas pipeline scheme in British Columbia.
It added rail work, where it is working on the HS2 scheme and the East West railway from Oxford to Milton Keynes, was also on the up.
Pre-tax profit jumped from £9.5m to just under £62m with net cash up a quarter to £217m.
The firm said its order book was £2.4bn at the end of last year with 90% of its target secured for 2022 and 60% for 2023.
The number of staff at the business was up 4% to just over 3,500.
