Mott MacDonald has won a deal to design the infrastructure for the 拢16bn Masdar project in Abu Dhabi, which developers claim will be the world鈥檚 first carbon neutral and zero waste city.
The firm has been appointed by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company to develop renewable energy strategies and design the main plants and utility distribution networks that will serve the 5.5 million m虏 development.
Plans for the city, where cars will be banned, include a Personal Rapid Transport system (PRT) which will run on renewable energy.
Ian Clarke, Mott MacDonald鈥檚 managing director in the Middle East, said: 鈥淲e are thrilled that Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company has chosen us to assist on Masdar. Our appointment enables us to consolidate our profile as world leaders in the field of sustainability and furthermore help place Abu Dhabi at the centre of sustainable development.鈥
