Collaborative Teaching Laboratry University of Birmingham

Morgan Sindall has landed a contract to build a 拢40m laboratory for the University of Birmingham at its main Edgbaston campus.

The two-storey 72,120 sq ft Collaborative Teaching Laboratory has been designed by Sheppard Robson and received planning approval in September.

The lab will be dedicated to STEM subjects - science, technology, engineering and maths - and will feature dry, wet and computer labs and exhibition space to enable the university to showcase innovations to the public.

Work will start next month, with the building scheduled to open by 2019.

Trevor Payne, director of estates at the University of Birmingham said: 鈥淭he Collaborative Teaching Laboratory is a major project for the University as we continue to develop and enhance the teaching experience here.

鈥淭his building will enable us to work in new and different ways. Our students are the next generation of world-changers and as such it is key for us to nurture this in their working environments.鈥

Morgan Sindall鈥檚 area director for the west midlands, Richard Fielding said: 鈥淭his is a hugely important building for the region鈥檚 premier higher educational establishment and we are very much looking forward to delivering the building.鈥
