University of Sussex picks contractor to start on 8000m2 project in October
Morgan Sindall has been appointed to design and build a 拢17.8m academic building for the University of Sussex.
The building will house the school of law, politics and sociology and the school of business, Management and economics.
It will be the biggest lecture theatre on the university鈥檚 campus, at Falmer.
The new building will cover 8000m虏 and will have a number of sustainable technologies such as a sedum roof and rainwater harvesting.
Morgan Sindall will be employing 50 local companies to work on the project with up to 200 construction workers on site at the project鈥檚 peak.
鈥淭his is our ninth project at the University of Sussex, having recently completed a new teaching block also at the Falmer campus,鈥 says Richard Watts, Morgan Sindall area director.
鈥淭he higher education market is presenting a number of opportunities for us and as always we will be working with as many local subcontractors on this scheme as possible to ensure the benefits of the project are felt locally.鈥
Professor Clare Mackie, the University鈥檚 pro-vice-chancellor for Teaching and Learning, says: 鈥淭he new academic building forms part of our long-term strategy for top-quality facilities that will enhance the teaching and learning environment for our students and academics.
Work begins on site in October and is due to complete in April 2012.
